Abstract
There is a clear demand for laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) source treatments of leg veins in patients with fear of or contraindications to sclerotherapy, small vessels to technically challenging for sclerotherapy, vessels resistant to sclerotherapy, or tendency for telangiectatic matting. However, these treatments of leg veins have generally yielded disappointing results because of vessel color, diameter, depth, and associated high-pressure flow. Use of longer wavelengths, longer pulse widths, and better cooling devices have recently sparked renewed interests in these methods.
